| 11: Background information | The Bradford Mechanics' Institute Library was established in 1832 and for over 70 years played a leading role in adult education in Bradford, providing books, classes and, later, a long series of very popular public lectures. During the redevelopment of Bradford city centre in 1974, the magnificent Bridge Street building was demolished and the Library moved to its present modern premises where there is a pleasant reading room for the use of members and for meetings. |
| 12: Collections | Some 14,000 books with a good stock of modern fiction and non-fiction, local history and biographies. Audio-tapes, videos, newspapers and magazines are also available. |
